Etsy Smart Reply (the “Extension”) helps Etsy sellers draft short, friendly replies to customers directly inside Etsy Messages / Conversations. We collect as little data as reasonably possible and use it only to provide and improve the Extension.
When you click “Smart Reply”, the Extension sends the relevant buyer message and a small slice of recent conversation context to a backend service. That service forwards the text to OpenAI’s API to generate a suggested reply.
No buyer messages or conversation text are stored in any database. They are processed only in memory for the purpose of generating a reply.
Your configuration inside the extension (tone, default sign-off, optional hints about your
products, etc.) is stored only in your local browser via chrome.storage.
These settings are not stored in Firestore and are not sent to any database.
The Extension does not collect or store Etsy usernames, order numbers, item details, buyer email addresses, physical addresses, or other personal data about buyers or sellers.

The backend keeps minimal logs to help diagnose problems and prevent abuse. These logs may include:
Full buyer messages are not logged or stored. Logs are used only for debugging, monitoring, and protecting the service from abuse.
If you choose to join the Etsy Smart Reply Pro waitlist on the upgrade page, we store the following in Firestore:

Waitlist entries will be deleted within 12 months after Pro becomes publicly available, or earlier if you ask us to delete your data.
To enforce free and Pro usage limits per browser, we store simple monthly counters in Firestore. For each installId and calendar month we may store:
"2025-01";These counters are used to decide whether you are still within the free quota or using a Pro plan. Counts reset automatically each calendar month. Records may be kept indefinitely unless you request deletion.
The Extension is designed for adult Etsy sellers. As Etsy itself is intended for adults, the Extension is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect any information from children.
We do not sell your data. We only share data with third parties where necessary to operate the Extension:
These third parties process the data under their own terms and policies, but only for the purpose of providing the underlying infrastructure or AI services.
We rely on Google Cloud’s and Firebase’s built-in security controls (authentication, authorization rules, encryption in transit and at rest) to protect stored data.
While no method of storage or transmission over the internet is 100% secure, we aim to keep data collection minimal and use reasonable measures to protect what we do store.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as the Extension evolves. When we do so, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. In case of significant changes, we may also highlight them on the upgrade page or in the Chrome Web Store listing.
